Waro

With Daniel Waro in Reunion Island

A defender of the Creole Language in Reunion Island.
A french Army draft dodger who would rather play Maloya Music than fight for the French.
A proud man of mixed heritage and the embodiment of Reunion's diversity.
A haunting voice,
A powerful force,
A master of words
Danyel Waro invited me to perform with him on his beautiful island home. This experience changed my life and outlook on music. He taught me that Music is functional, that it is not rigid and stiff but strong, it is not academic and labored but well-thought out. I can only hope to affect people with my music in a meaningful long-lasting manner, in the way that his music has affected me. A true inspiration to me. I am blessed to have even heard his music.
I am grateful for the great hospitality in Reunion and letting me pay it back. I am grateful for the weeklong residency recording and creating songs.
