Tumi is the poetmc: My mum was lighter than my grandma was Told everyday to go play in the sun She never got browner, hour after hour Soured by a pain that really wasn’t about And so go the powers made to devour us Shoulders got wider face got whiter Everything paled in comparison she sized up This issue was the main embarrassing factor Louder than tractors, you’ll hear it if you have to The mirror was endearing But she wouldn’t attract her Until Black man with a black beard Introduced to revolution and apartheid And with that Dark Age Came her enlightenment, woman With an A.K fighting men And this when my life began, A dying dad and no family plan
